MENOPAUSE: The M-Word That Isn't Taboo

The M-Word That Isn't Taboo

Hey there, Minxes!

Go on and grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea, because today we're diving headfirst into a topic that's often met with raised eyebrows and awkward silences: menopause. Yes, that's right, the Dreaded "M" Word...

Heat Wave

Picture this: You're at a social gathering, chatting away with friends, when someone casually mentions the word "menopause." Suddenly, it's as if you've uttered a forbidden incantation, casting a spell of silence over the group.

Cue the nervous laughter and darting glances!

Why is menopause, a natural life phase that affects half the population, still so shrouded in secrecy?

The Taboos of Yesteryears
Let's hop in the time machine and travel back a few decades. Menopause was the Voldemort of subjects - the one that shall not be named. The hush-hush treatment led to misconceptions and myths that spread faster than a wildfire on a windy day. No wonder people back then believed that menopausal women turned into a sort of mythical creature, complete with mood swings and spells of sudden heatwaves!

Thankfully, we've come a long way from those days of misinformation. However, even in the era of open conversations about almost everything, menopause seems to be the wallflower at the chatty party.

Again I ask...

Why?
WHY?!?!?!?

I did some digging and I've found some (relatively valid) theories, that might shed some light on this:

The Fear of Aging
Well, partly because of the societal notion that discussing menopause equals shouting from the rooftops about aging. And in a world where youth is celebrated, who wants to admit that they might experience something beyond their twenties?

The Lack of Education
But the other reason is that many people simply don't know much about menopause. It's not a topic that's often taught in schools or discussed openly in society. So, when it does come up, people feel awkward and unsure of what to say.

Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list, (how could it be, there's only 2!), but I figured that this could be a starting point for us! You see my fellow Minxes, it's time to break the taboo and talk about menopause openly and honestly. By breaking the silence, we can help to dispel the myths and misconceptions, and provide support and understanding to each other as we navigate this natural phase.

So...LET'S TALK ABOUT IT!

Have you ever encountered the awkward silence when menopause is brought up? Or perhaps you've shattered the taboo and had an enlightening conversation about it? Share your thoughts, stories, and experiences in the comments below. Let's create a safe space to learn, share, and support each other as we navigate the twists and turns of this natural phase.

Safe Space

Remember, menopause is a gift and not a curse. It's a chapter in the book of life that deserves to be read aloud, shared, and celebrated. So join me in raising a glass (or coffee/tea cup), to all my fellow Minxes out there who are embracing their menopause journey with strength, resilience, grace, humor, gratitude, and wisdom.

Cheers,

Kimberly
